- Was ist Perfboard Lab Pro?

2. What data does the app process?
The app runs entirely on your device. The following data only exists locally or in your own Apple Account:
- Circuits and settings: Your current circuit, the board of a running task and your settings (e.g. sounds, tutorial, default values) are stored on your device. If a circuit needs Perfboard Lab Pro (a Pro part, a Pro board or more than 7 parts) and no subscription is active, the app keeps it as a circuit put aside, likewise only on your device, until Perfboard Lab Pro is active.
- Achievements: The app stores your achievements (number of burnt-out parts, solved tasks, badges) on your device. Only if “Sync across all devices” is turned on do they also go into your iCloud as described below.
- Saved circuits (iCloud Drive): When you save circuits and “Sync across all devices” is turned on in the settings (Perfboard Lab Pro) or no folder of your own is chosen as the storage location (the default), the app stores them in the “Perfboard Lab” folder in your iCloud Drive so they are available on your devices. Storage is provided by Apple; the developer has no access to it. If iCloud is unavailable, the files stay on the device.
- Sync across all devices (Perfboard Lab Pro): If “Sync across all devices” is turned on in the settings, the saved circuits are in iCloud Drive (see above), and the app also keeps your current circuit, your settings (except sound and muting the explanation), your achievements and the state of your tasks in your iCloud (in the app’s own area, not as a file in iCloud Drive) so you can keep working on it on your other devices with the same Apple Account. For this it stores a random identifier and the kind of device (e.g. “iPad”), not your device’s name. The data is held by Apple in your iCloud; the developer has no access to it. The running task with its board goes along as well. If you turn the switch off, the app stores nothing new in iCloud; what is already there stays in your iCloud until you delete it in your Apple Account settings under iCloud › Manage Storage.
- Storage location of your choice: In the settings you can choose any folder instead (for example on the device or with a cloud provider of your choice). The app then stores your circuits only there and accesses only that folder. Folders with other providers are subject to their privacy policies; the developer has no access to them.
- Sharing and opening files: When you share a circuit as a PDF or as a circuit file, the app creates the file on your device and hands it to the iOS share sheet. Only you decide where it goes (e.g. Messages, Mail, Files). When you open a circuit file with the app, it reads only that one file. The developer receives no data. The same applies to settings files (
.perfboardsettings) with which you pass on or take over your default values for new parts: they contain only these values, no personal data. - “Perfboard Lab Pro” subscription (in-app purchase): Apple handles purchase, free trial, renewal and cancellation of the subscription through the App Store. The app only learns from Apple whether and until when a valid subscription or trial exists. The developer receives no payment details, name or email address. Apple’s privacy policy applies.
- Sounds: The app plays sounds (e.g. for the buzzer). The microphone is not used.
- Read-aloud: Explanations are read aloud by the iOS speech output on your device. No data is transmitted and nothing is recorded.
- Tasks and explanations (Perfboard Lab Pro): Tasks come from a fixed catalogue, explanations from sentences written in advance. On devices with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s language model, which runs entirely on your device (framework “Foundation Models”), chooses the next task and the steps of an explanation; it writes no texts itself. Without Apple Intelligence, the app chooses by fixed rules. Whether a task is solved is checked by the simulation on your device. The running task, the level you have reached and which tasks you have already solved or skipped are stored in the app’s settings, so that they survive a restart and tasks do not repeat. “Reset to factory settings” deletes them. They leave your device only if “Sync across all devices” is turned on; then they are kept in your iCloud as described above, and the reset applies to all your devices.
- Check for new versions: At launch the app asks Apple which version of Perfboard Lab is current in the App Store of your country (public App Store lookup,
itunes.apple.com/lookup, with the app’s identifier and your country). As with any internet access, your IP address is transmitted to Apple; no other data is sent, and the app stores none of it. If a newer version exists, the app shows a hint with a button to the App Store. Without internet access the check is silently skipped. Apple’s privacy policy applies. - Rating request: After a few successful circuits the app may ask for a rating through Apple’s own review sheet (StoreKit). Whether and when it appears is Apple’s decision; for this the app only counts, locally on the device, on how many days it was started and how many circuits worked. These counters never leave the device. The “Rate” link in the settings opens the app’s App Store page in the browser.
3. What the app does not do
- no collection of location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone data
- no advertising and no tracking, no sharing with third parties
- no third-party analytics or crash-reporting services
- no communication with the developer’s own servers – the only internet access is the version lookup at Apple (section 2)
4. Data provided by Apple
If you have agreed in your device settings, Apple may share anonymous crash and usage statistics with developers. This data is collected by Apple and cannot be used to identify you. You can change this at any time under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
5. Legal basis and retention
Local storage serves solely to provide the app’s features (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The data remains stored until you delete it in the app or in iCloud Drive, or remove the app. What “Sync across all devices” has stored in the app’s iCloud area remains even after the app is removed, until you delete it in your Apple Account settings under iCloud › Manage Storage.
6. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Since the developer stores no personal data about you, you can delete all of your data yourself at any time by removing the app and the “Perfboard Lab” folder in iCloud Drive.
7. Children
The app does not collect personal data from children either.
8. Changes
If the app changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated.
9. Hosting of this website (GitHub Pages)
This privacy policy is provided via GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc. (88 Colin P Kelly Jr St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you open this website, GitHub automatically collects information that your browser transmits and stores it in server log files (e.g. IP address, browser type, operating system, date and time of access). This is technically necessary to display the website reliably and securely. Data may be transferred to the USA in the process.
The processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in operating the website without errors). For more information, see GitHub’s privacy statement. The app shows the privacy policy and legal notice from a copy it includes, so without the internet. It only opens this website when you tap the link to the website in the app.

Help & support
Questions, ideas or found a bug? Write to me at pascal_schroeer@icloud.com – ideally with your device, iOS or macOS version and a short description or screenshot.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I start the tutorial again?
- Settings › Tutorial › turn on “Show tutorial at launch” and open the app again.
- Where are my saved circuits?
- In the lab at the top left under ··· › “Load …” or in the dashboard. With iCloud Drive turned on they are also in the “Perfboard Lab” folder in the Files app or the Finder – or in the folder you chose in the settings under “Storage location”.
- What is Perfboard Lab Pro?
- A weekly subscription for saving, opening, PDF export and sharing; new users can try it free for 3 days. Parts, examples, the simulation and the automatically kept current circuit stay free. You can cancel at any time in your Apple ID settings under “Subscriptions” – at least 24 hours before the end of the period, otherwise it renews automatically.
- How do I share a circuit?
- Under ··· › “Share as PDF” (to view and print) or “Share circuit” (as a file that others can open directly in the app).
- How do I switch between perfboard, stripboard and breadboard?
- Settings › Board › “Board type”. Below it you see how the holes of the chosen board are connected.
- How do I lengthen or bend a connection?
- Press and hold the connection until its ends blink. Dragging an end along the connection lengthens or shortens it, dragging it sideways adds a right-angle bend.
- Why doesn’t my LED light up?
- Tap “Analysis” at the top: it explains in plain words what is wrong – e.g. an open circuit, an LED inserted the wrong way round or two parts that do not share a hole.
